Thermal Engineering

Outline

This programme aims at necessary analytical and technical competence in various aspects of Thermal Power Engineering. Thermal Power plants have an increasingly dominant role to play in the vital power generation sector.
AICTE has granted permission to start M.Tech course in Thermal Power Engineering under the department of Mechanical Engineering from the academic year 2013 – 14 with an intake of 18 students. The course is affiliated to VTU, Belgaum. Students having Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Industrial Production Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent degree; AMIE in appropriate branch can join this P G Program.

The stream of specialization of Thermal Engineering offers courses related to theory and applications of thermal engineering. The Thermal Engineering course lays emphasis on real- time applications of fluid flow, Heat Transfer in thermal energy systems, refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems, I. C Engines and non- conventional energy resources. The core courses are designed to provide the students the required base for undertaking specialized electives and the project in the fields of heat transfer, Fluid Dynamics, Thermal Design and development of various components. The lab activities are designed in consultation with industries and research activities.

Facilities

Research Lab is well equipped with modern innovative equipment like:

The Thermal Imager (FLUKE TI- 400) measures the temperature from 20oC to 1200oC by identifying the long wave radiation.
The ELGI (E07En)”Screw Air Compressor” provides compressed air system to the laboratory to carry out the projects.
The regulator DC power supply servers the purpose of supplying uniform heat flux to test surface.
